The second number indicates the length of the core bit. For example, if the second number mentioned on the package is 15”, then the bit is 15” long. Generally, the length of the cores produced by a drill bit is equal to the overall size, excluding the thickness at the base. I.e. a 17” bit might make cores that are around 16½” long.
